An investment to showcase Filipino Culture? The first aborigines of Aklan especially Boracay were the Aetas. And they, thanks to providence, are still surviving to preserve their culture. Needless to say, they are essential part of the culture of Panay. Remember the barter trade between Datu Marikudo and Datu Puti? The States have Indian reservations to respect not only their culture but the dignity of the persons who were natives of the land.Till now, the Daughters of Charity have a hard time acquiring even a a title of a small piece of land to the Ati: the original settlers of Boracay and we spend millions without even thinking of them.If we want to showcase the Filipino culture in Boracay, the Aetas should be given their their rightful land. Private and government sectors need to realize that aside from these big projects, our fellow human beings are becoming strangers to their own land.

Thanks Fr. Am for espousing the rights of our Aeta brethrens, but sad to say that one our Ibajaynon kasimanwa holding a very influential position in the province/country is one of those depriving these Aetas for their just and rightful piece of land. Bugtaw eon Aklanon!!

Kasayod man ro tanan nga ro poder ag kwarta hay nagasamad it tagipusoon. I hope it is only a question of time that the Aetas will be granted their rightful land. It would set a good example and it would make one really a good devotee of the Sto. Nino, who prefers the least, downtrodden, the poor, the marginalized and the powerless.
