On April 25-28, 2007, Boracay will host the 1st Boracay International Dragon Boat Festival, a 4-day festival celebrating Boracay’s appreciation of its pristine waters and the bounty of benefits its people and visitors continue to enjoy.� The Festival culminates with the dragon boat races on April 27 and 28 with at least 50 international and Philippine teams, ie 1,000 people, participating in the races itself.� Dragon boating came to Boracay in 2001 when it was first introduced.� Since then, annual competitions participated by international teams from Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, etc. have been held in the waters of Boracay.� The Festival is organized by the Boracay Island Paddlers Association (BIPA) in cooperation with the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation, Philippine Tourism Authority and the Municipality of Malay.� The participants of the festival are promised days of healthy competition, great camaraderie and lots of good fun in the sea and under the sun.
The event will also showcase Philippines’ cultural / festival performers such as the Bacolod Masscarra dancers, Kalibo Atiatihan group, Borakay Tribal Performing Arts (with the fire dancers), the La Carlotta Band, and other cultural performers of the island during the dinner parties and the race days. Please find attached the schedule of activities. ABS-CBN, ANC and SOLAR SPORTS will be doing a 1/2hr special of the event for national broadcast.
