18 Nabbed in Gun Ban Violations

The Police Regional Office arrested 18 gun ban violators just 18 days of the implementation of the Commission of Election (Comelec) Resolution No. 7764.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office scored the most arrests with six followed by Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office with three arrests; the Capiz and Guimaras Provincial Police Offices and Iloilo City and Bacolod City Police Offices recorded two arrests each while the Aklan Police Provincial Office made one arrest.

Two members of the Philippine Army were also arrested for the same offense.

SSgt Edwin Demontano assigned at the 524 Engineering Construction Battalion (ECB) in Panaad Park, Mansilingan, Bacolod City was arrested Jan. 16 while PFC Delkin Roca, assigned at 11th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army based in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental was nabbed Jan. 21.

Demontano was arrested by members of the Bacolod City Police Station 3 after Daniel Sarroza, security guard of the PSG Security Agency detailed at Robinson’s Place in Mandalagan, Bacolod City confiscated two hand grenades from his possession.

Roca was arrested for possessing a caliber 9mm pistol with four live ammunitions by joint elements of Kabankalan City Police Station and 6th Regional Mobile Group in a checkpoint at Rizal St, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

A total of nine cases were already filed in court while others are still being prepared for filing.

The Comelec gun ban is in effect beginning Jan. 14 to June 13. (PRO-6/RPCRD)
