breaking news: Gas leak suffocates two Jolibee staff, injured three others

Kalibo, Aklan- A gas leak inside the foodchain at Gaisano here nearly drove away spectators suffocating two of its staff and injuring three others as the Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival culminates.

Based on the police record entry at the Kalibo PNP here, the incident occured around 7:35 this morning when the staff are preparing the food at the Jolibee for their store opening at 9 am.

Those suffocated during the gas leak incident which burned the kitchen of the store were Jean Libantino, 18 of Barangay Kinalangay Nuevo of Malinao and Julienne Dalida, 18 of Altavas, Aklan.

Those injured were Kristine Beltran, 21 of Barangay Kabayugan, Malinao; Emil Tumaob, 19 of Barangay Taba-ao, Banga and Joseth Regido, 19 of Barangay Bulabod, Malinao.

All of the victims were brought to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital here and were released at noontime after medical treatment.

The gas leak which turned into a fire incident was immediately prevented by the Bureau of Fire Protection from spreading after they immediately responded in the scene.

The Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival now on its 795th year of celebration is considered as the mother of Philippine festivals in the country.
