Lezo, Aklan- After several months of silence, the family of wanted mayor Fred Arcenio have finally spoken why he is still in hiding despite calls from the Philippine National Police to surrender for murder charges.
A closed member of Mayor Arcenio recently talked to the Guardian on condition of anonymity to dispel reports that the chief executive went into hiding to escape the murder charges being hurled against him.
Mayor Arcenio went into hiding in September last year apparently after learning that a warrant of arrests will be released against him as prime suspect of the killing of Bombo Herson Hinolan in 2004.
The source said that Mayor Arcenio are in fact willing to face the criminal proceedings the reason why his lawyer has filed to allow the mayor to post bail. Earlier, the Kalibo Regional Trial Court had not approved to grant bail for Arcenio.
"Mayor Fred wanted to comes out in the open but because of threats from politics and the New People's Army, he does not want to surrender for his own personal safety," the source said.
The NPA are reportedly also joining the hunt against Arcenio not because of the P150,000 bounty offered by the PNP but also he has allegedly committed mistakes from the communists.
"Arcenio while he is still an active operative of the Military Inteligence Group (MIG) of the Philippine Army, he had helped several rebels to return to the folds of the government specially during martial law the reason why the communists are angry against him," the source said.
But Aklan Police Provincial Director William Macavinta said they are willing to provide needed security arrangement for the wanted mayor to assure his safety while undergoing court proceedings if he really wanted to surrender.
Comes May 2007 election, Fred's brother Poblacion Barangay Captain Nonoy Arcenio is being groomed to run against acting Mayor Victor Fernandez if the court will not allowed Arcenio to post bail.
The source claimed that the Arcenio family are being supported by two political families in Lezo allegedly because of their disappointments against the leadershio of Fernandez.
"One of the underlying reasons is that Fernandez turned his back against Arcenio during the crisis. The political families recognizes the charges pending court decision bu they believed it is unethical for Fernandez for leaving behind his former political ally," the source said.

The whole Arcenio Family should be arrested and jailed. From the father to the sons, they have all killed innocent people. Even the murderous on the run ex mayor Fred Arcenio used to be a killer for hire even when he was an enlisted man with the PA MIG unit.
His father also killed someone in Lezo but was covered up by the powers that be at that time.
People of Lezo, WAKE UP!!! Do you want our town to be known as the town run by a murderous family??? THINK and VOTE for decency.
I was raised in that small town but i never thought i can ever hear things like "murderer-mayor(in one sentence)" in Lezo...things have changed...
