Eight arrested for gun ban violation

KALIBO, Aklan – The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) arrested eight persons violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 7764-A (gun ban) since the operation took off last January 14, this year.

Of the eight violators, two were arrested each by the Libacao police station, Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO) and New Washington police station.
The Malinao police station collared one violator.

One person voluntarily surrendered his firearm to the Libacao police station during the conduct of police visibility patrol in Sitio Belen, Brgy Rosal, Libacao town.

The operation led to the confiscation of one high-powered firearm, two low-powered firearms, five homemade firearms and 30 live ammunitions.

During the operation, one homemade firearm with one live ammunition was recovered and one homemade firearm with two ammunitions was voluntary surrendered.

Acting Provincial Director Senior Supt. Benigno B Durana Jr said that as of this date, eight cases were already filed in court against these violators.

Durana said his office is continuously conducting joint checkpoint / chokepoint operation with the Comelec.

He likewise directed chiefs of police/officer in-charge of every municipal police stations including the 601st Aklan Provincial Mobile Group and BSTPO to intensify their visibility patrol and monitoring to ensure an honest, peaceful, orderly and credible election.
