KALIBO, Aklan – Governor Carlito Marquez laughed off reports that the Tres Marias of Mabeth Mobo-Garcia, Vicky Ramos and Billie Calizo are formidable candidates in the forthcoming polls here.

Marquez belittled the “Tres Marias’ strength, massive political organization and well-oiled” machinery saying that almost half of the opposition candidates and leaders belonging to Kusog it Akean and Aklan Independent Movement (AIM) in the 2004 elections from the province’s 17 municipalities are already affiliated with the Tibyog it Akean.

Garcia, Ramos and Calizo are the official candidates and standard bearers of the Genuine Opposition in Aklan in the May 14 polls, according to senior political adviser Senator Ernesto Maceda and UNO president Mayor Jejomar Binay in an interview over RMN-dyKR recently.

“I am not afraid of the recent declaration of Ms. Ramos to run again for the gubernatorial post since I had already expected her comeback in the political arena…I am very confident that the united leadership of Tibyog it Akean will again claim landslide victory in this May polls,” he said.

He added the united leadership of the incumbent provincial officials was able to deliver basic services and address problems of the various towns such as social, medical, education, infrastructure as well as the tourism industry which is the primary income generator of the province.

Marquez added with the entry of municipal officials and leaders belonging to the other political camps, the Tibyog it Akean will again dominate all political positions in the province. “Our group is unbeatable for almost close to two decades already in Aklan’s political landscape.”

Aklan Vice Governor Ronquillo Tolentino said the machinery and organization of their group is already in place and tested for several elections that is why he is not bothered as to who his possible political foes would be.

Tolentino added Aklanon people are wise voters and educated they choose leaders based on their conscience and qualifications of candidates.
